Open Gate at the Moose Lodge
Loyal Order of Moose Glendale, Lodge 641
It's not just a venue, it's a performing clubhouse
Welcome members and guests
performers and audience
Open Gate is creating Moose Events, not renting from the Moose - but actual Moose Lodge Events.
We are delight to be a part of this wacky wonderful phenomenon.
The Glendale Moose Lodge is a grand old building in the heart of Glendale. It boasts two ballrooms and a large social hall. The Loyal Order of the Moose is a Social Club that has a long history; while the Masons boast Mozart and Newton, the Moose claims at it's own Charlie Chaplin and Abbot and Costello,
Social dancing, especially ballroom dancing, has long been an important part of the Glendale Moose Lodge. But recently the Lodge has been joined by a herd of clowns, wacky musicians, puppeteers, baggy pants comedians, and a great deal of what not; often as woolly as the many moose heads on the wall. It's a place where a stilt walker can put up his feet, clowns try out old material, jugglers practice stage combat
with a rubber fish among friends, and all join in a Hawaiian ukulele song,. (and this is just in the bar).
They are happy to come to the classic old building, flash their membership cards and do the antler dance,
enjoying the camaraderie.
While the large downstairs ballroom is used steadily for dancing, and the social hall for socializing,
the Lodge is working to make the upstairs ballroom into a performance space
that fits into the Moose Lodge sense of social context and it's mission of service.
Open Gate is adding to this noble order our art and the art of many related artists. Why not -
Butoh upstairs from Foxtrot, Vinny Golia's wild ContraBass Sax solo wafting downstairs to fit with "Honolulu Baby",
Grotowskiesque theatre the night after Who's on Third, vocal multi-phonics a week after a Barbershop,
Contact Improv on and Salsa both on Wednesday.
(- well other than that.....)
